We can leave the street physically, but the street does not leave us
Philomène, une intervenante et les jeunes
And that is exactly what the young people in our shelter experienced. They were glad to have a roof over their heads, but the street appeal did not diminish. Some ended up going back. This is why we are so proud of those who have remained and who have begun this process of inner transformation which separates them definitively from the streets.
This transformation begins with a change of mentality. Being on the streets conditions young people to lead a life in which one runs after easy gain, a life centered on theft and violence. It is difficult for them to give up this facility and to understand that you have to work with patience to achieve your goals. And without Jesus, it is difficult to experience this renewal of thought.
Today, young people have found temporary work, in which they learn to tame the labor market and acquire skills that they can transfer when they practice their dream job. Moreover, with this work they learn to save for their future projects. And for young people who were used to living day to day without worrying about tomorrow, it's a miracle.
